Powerhouse Sari is bringing the blues back to the Atkinson

ON Saturday, April 15 Sari Schorr & The Engine Room bring the sounds of the deep south to The Atkinson – Studio Clubstyle.

New York Blues Hall of Fame singer and songwriter Sari is a tornado with blues in her blood.

She took the international blues scene by storm as the powerhouse lead vocalist for Blues Hall of Fame guitarist Joe Louis Walker.

Sari has appeared on the Conan O’Brien show, and has toured throughout the US, Europe, Asia and Australia.

She has received critical acclaim for her blustery vocals and emotionallycharged performances, and has been described as a modern-day hybrid of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner.

In January 2015, legendary producer Mike Vernon (Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall, Blue Horizon) was invited to receive a Keeping The Blues Alive award at the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN.

This award was not the only highlight of the weekend for Mike: the second was witnessing the performance of one of the most amazing female blues singers Mike had seen in years – Sari Schorr.

“It’s been a tremendous honor to work with Mike Vernon,” said Sari.

“His uncompromising passion for producing the blues is inspirational. “He’s a true visionary.” The majority of songs on the new album were written by Sari and several writing partners across the globe.

She collaborated with Mike Vernon and Quique Bonal in Spain, Henning Gehrke in Germany and Jimmy Yaeger in the US.

Featured on the album is the incomparable Walter Trout performing one of his venerated songs, Work No More; Innes Sibun; Oli Brown (RavenEye) and keyboardist John Baggott (Massive Attack, Portishead).

A new addition to the album is a monumental arrangement of the powerful Lead Belly classic Black Betty, created by Sari and Innes.

They performed the song at Carnegie Hall on the Lead Belly Fest.

Sari’s album delivers hard-driving blues-rock, influenced by the late 60s British blues movement.

Sari, who trained as an opera singer, mixes blues, rock, and soul with concrete melodies and poetic lyrics to striking effect.

Sari and The Engine Room were winners of Best Live Blues Rock Performance Award for 2016.
