Miss aims to be a hit with fundraiser
ADANCE teacher is getting ready to swap her ballet pumps for running shoes to take on this year’s London Marathon.
Local Babyballet pupils aged from just six months old have been showing their support for their teacher, “Miss Katherine” – Katherine Emmett – by holding a raffle to raise funds for her effort.
Katherine, a professional dancer from Formby, has been a teacher with Babyballet Southport, Formby & Crosby for the past five years and taught hundreds of children about the joys and benefits of ballet.
On Saturday, April 23 she aims to complete the London Marathon to raise funds for The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
Babyballet has raised £152 so far by holding a raffle and has many more fun events to come to show their support for their much-loved teacher.
Katherine’s nephew, George, three, was born with only one half of his heart working properly.
He has already undergone surgery and will continue to need further operations and treatment in the future.
Katherine said: “I am running to try to raise as much money as possible for my charity to help the wonderfully talented and caring team of doctors and nurses at the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit based at Leeds General Infirmary. George and many other children with heart conditions will need all their skill, care and support on many occasions in the future.
“They deserve all the financial assistance we can provide to continue to develop their life saving techniques.”
