ASOUTHPORT pub’s licensees are celebrating recent success by giving it a makeover and a new kitchen.

Following a revival in the 12 months since Lesley Curtin and Seb Lang took over, the brewery has offered fresh investment as a further boost.

Workers will spend about a fortnight installing a kitchen and refurbishing the exterior of The Blue Anchor, in Tithebarn Road, in May.

The move is part of making the pub more family-friendly and attracting new customers.

The pub will remain open throughout the work and once the kitchen is installed, the Blue Anchor will serve a range of pub grub, Sunday dinners and sandwiches.

Lesley said: “The works start on May 2 but we’re not closing, we’re staying open and doing it in stages. We don’t open until three so most of the work will be done before then each day.

“We’ve been here for nearly 12 months now and it’s going reasonably well. The brewery have decided now is the time to expand so we’re getting the new kitchen and doing up the outside of the pub as well.”

She and Seb have worked to create a more welcoming pub since taking over last year and reg- ularly have bouncy castles in the beer garden through the summer.

“It did have a bit of a rough image before we took over, but that’s changed,” Leslie added.

“We’re trying to encourage more people to come here and we do get a lot more women coming in now.”

Once the improvement works are complete, a relaunch party will be held on Saturday, May 20 with full details to come.
