TWO teenagers were arrested following a police manhunt around Hesketh Park on Easter Sunday.

Onlookers reported seeing more than five police cars and vans speeding towards the park, with a police helicopter also hovering above the area.

Two teens were later seen being taken away in handcuffs, with one caught inside the park and another stopped at the nearby golf course.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and possession of a class B drug.

An officer at the scene said that a third member of the group remained unaccounted for.

A police spokesman said: “Merseyside police arrested two males following reports that a scrambler bike was being ridden anti-socially in Southport yesterday (Sunday, April 17).

“At about 1.45pm, a report was received that three youths were attempting to start a motorbike in Hesketh Park.

“Patrols attended and a short time later two males were arrested.

“A 15-year-old male and a 13-year-old male, both from Southport, were arrested on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled drug (Class B).”

He added: “They were taken to a police station in Merseyside to be interviewed and have been released pending a disposal decision.

“The bike was recovered by officers.”
