Let’s end season on a high

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH suffered yet another heavy defeat on Monday evening as their season draws to a saddening end.

The Linnets were defeated 4-0 by Ossett Albion but with relegation already confirmed it was just another kick in the teeth for supporters.

It was the fifth defeat in a row for Burscough and their last victory was against Glossop North End in March.

They have just one more fixture left to play and the club’s media officer Ross Chandley believes players are now fighting for their futures.

“Again, losing 4-0 was damaging for the lads’ confidence but we just have to put that behind us now and move on,” said Chandley.

“Going into the final game, the players are all fighting for their places now as there could potentially be several changes.

“There has been plenty of youth stepping up in recent weeks too so there’s still lots for the players to play for.

“It’s the last home game of the season too so the players should be geared up for delivering a performance to the fans.

“They have been fantastic all season despite a fairly miserable campaign.

“They deserve to end on a high and it’s the player’s jobs to ensure they give their all to achieve that this weekend.

“Relegation has already been confirmed so to a certain degree there is no more pressure and hopefully that will loosen some of the lads up.”

Burscough’s immediate attention will be on securing three points against Ramsbottom this Saturday but Chandley hopes the players can start looking ahead to a potentially positive future at the club.

The Linnets will be hoping to bounce straight back into the Evo-Stik Northern First Division but on reflection, Chandley admitted it has been a disappointing campaign and that sunken feeling will be resounding on Saturday.

“There can be no sugar-coating it. The season hasn’t been great,” said Chandley.
