New Victoria well prepared after win over Ainsdale

NEW Victoria first Xl got off to a winning start in a friendly against an Ainsdale Xl at Liverpool Road.

New Vic fielded first and Jonny Howard (1-20) struck early by having Tom Wainwright caught behind by Owen Jamieson with the score on 16.

This was quickly followed by Barry Mills taking a return catch to dismiss Bramwell.

Ainsdale added 34 for the third wicket before Jamieson was in action again this time off Keiran Rigby’s bowling (1-24) to remove Lowe (21).

The home teams batters dominated the middle order with Timms (28),Swift (31) and Friar (24) scoring the runs before Jamie Bray (2-22) claimed the first two and Barry Mills (4-29) removing Ainsdale Friar.

Mills took two more wickets as Ainsdale finished their innings on 147-8 off their 40 overs.

When it came to batting New Vic skipper Matty Howard (35) struck nicely before being bowled by Friar with the score on 46.

A further 24 were added for the next wicket as Harry Sawbridge (11) kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Eventually opener, Jack Sawbridge (37) was retired and Mills (37) in partnershi­p with Paul Sawbridge (18) guided New Vic towards the target.

Paul Sawbridge was eventually caught and bowled by J.Fazakerley with the score on 147, making way for Jonny Howard to hit the winning runs in the 34th over. New Victoria won by seven wickets. Have you ever played cricket at school, college, university or at a club?
