ASOUTHPORT mum has told of her shock after her son was knocked off his bike by a hit-andrun driver as he cycled to school.

Alfie Ellison, 12, was on his way to Christ the King High School in Birkdale when a black car hit his back wheel and knocked him off his bike in Stamford Road.

He hit a wall and landed on the kerb, but the driver responsible didn’t even leave the car to check that he was all right before driving off.

Alfie’s mum Joanne said: “He was on Stamford Road and a lady in a black car knocked his back wheel and he came off the bike onto the kerb and into a wall.

“She rolled her window down to see if he was okay and before he could answer she drove off.”

Another parent further down the road stopped to help Alfie and took him to school where he was seen by a firstaider.

He was left with cuts to his hands and bruising on his knees, and his school trousers were ripped.

Joanne took him to hospital and reported the incident to police.

To make matters worse, after the incident, Alfie’s bike was stolen from his school, leaving him devastated.

She said: “We left his bike at school overnight because it was the last thing on my mind. My older son went to collect it and it was gone.”

This is the second time the family have been hit by bike theft. Alfie’s brother’s £2,000 bike was stolen from the school last year.

Joanne expressed her disbelief that the driver didn’t stop to check whether Alfie was all right, and said that the woman even had her own children in the car at the time.

She said: “Accidents happen but she should have got out of the car and left her details.

“I’m a mother myself. It could have been worse but she didn’t know he wasn’t seriously injured. It doesn’t matter whose fault it was, you still stop.”

Merseyside police confirmed that they received reports of a 12-year-old boy involved in a collision while riding his bike on the morning of Monday, April 24.

He was reported to have lost control of his bike and hit the kerb, then a wall after being hit.

The driver was reportedly female and driving a black car. She is believed to have stopped the car and then driven off.

IF you have any information about either incident please call Merseyside Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
