SOUTHPORT’S Mad Dog has been named the country’s best 10k race for the fourth year running.

Race organiser Adrian Shandley picked up the award at a glittering ceremony in London on Thursday, April 20.

Adrian said: “Wow. We won! Thanks to all the amazing ‘dogs’ and a special thank you to Wendy the Woofer for all her hard work.

“We couldn’t have done this without her.

“This really is an incredible accolade, we came down to the awards ceremony hoping to win, but to win four years running is just... wow!”

Mad Dog stalwart Les Jackson added: “This is thoroughly deserved as always by Adrian and the Hesketh Round Table team, as well as all the behind-the-scenes people and on the day.

“Mad Dog has the best runners’ goodie bags (doggy bags!) and yearon-year the amount they raise for great causes goes up and up.

“Well done to all!”

Southport’s Mad Dog 10k has firmly established itself as one of the biggest events in the town’s calendar.

About 2,500 runners took part in the 2017 run - with all the places having been snapped up by eager participants in just 48 hours.

The Mad Dog 10k usu- ally takes place in February - with entries opening in autumn.

All those who have taken part previously will receive an email once entries are open.
