Bowling is our rock says Stone

-

BURSCOUGH CC celebrated an encouraging derby victory against Skelmersdale on Saturday.

They have made a strong start to the season and skipper Jon Stone was pleased with the victory despite a few nervy moments in the game.

Stone admitted his side made it difficult for themselves but there were a few strong individual performances which drove Burscough towards the victory.

“We batted first and we didn’t perform well to be honest,” said Stone. It was quite disappointing as we made it a closer game than it probably should have been but a win is a win.

“There were some good individual performances though and that was certainly something which was good to see.

“Rob Glaysher had a wonderful spell with the ball and so did our South African Benjamin Van Niekerk.

“Young Ryan Hughes was terrific too.

“He took three wickets in three overs.

“Our bowling was superb really.

“It was the strength of our bowling which won us the game.

“We just need to improve on the other side of our game for next week.”

Burscough take on Newton-le-Willows in their next clash on Saturday and Stone hopes they can work on their batting in training this week.

He was pleased with Burscough’s bowling performance on Saturday but he is used to seeing a strong batting performance and he hopes that will return.

“Our batting is stronger than our bowling usually but it turned out better this weekend which was strange,” said Stone.

“We’ll certainly be looking to improve that next Saturday and we’ll be focusing on it more than usual in training this week.

“Hopefully we’ll get the full points against Newton as we’ve got the full squad again and I am confident we can get a win.

“Hopefully we can start performing better all-round for the rest of this season. We want to be near the top”.
