FIFTY affordable homes, including some designed specifically for the elderly, could soon be built in Scarisbrick.

Plans have been submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council to build at Otterstye View, off Southport Road.

The site, located about halfway between Southport Crematorium and the Red Lion Caravan Park, was most recently used as a garage, which has since been demolished.

The company behind the plans, Torus Developments, specialises in building affordable homes around the North West.

According the firm’s website, it is expecting to build at least 1,200 homes over the next five years.

As part of the plans, some of the homes will be designed specifically for elderly residents.

These homes are described as “cottage flats”, six of which be located off Southport Road.

Last year, plans were submitted to build 38 homes elsewhere along Southport Road, while Marston’s Inns is also set to open a pub on the road to meet the growing demand.

The application states: “The submitted scheme reflects the applicant’s full commitment to an inclusive society in which nobody is disadvantaged and where physical barriers and exclusions are designed out.

“The philosophy of the design is to ensure that the need of people with impairments is considered as an integral part of the development process.

“By developing an inclusive environment the scheme shall have a positive effect on society by benefiting the increasing elderly population.”

The plans will now be decided on by West Lancashire Borough Council.
