AS MANY as 3,000 people could visit the annual Ainsdale Show this weekend.

The event is organised by the Ainsdale Horticultural Society and brings together groups from all over the village.

The show will be held on the village green this Saturday, with marquees set up to ensure that it can be enjoyed whatever the weather.

Skelmersdale Brass Band will again lead the procession through the village, before regular highlights including the crowning of the Rosebud.

There will also be performances by the local schools and youth clubs throughout the day.

As well as the main marquee, which will host the flower contests among other events, there will be a children’s marquee which will feature activi- ties and entertainment.

There will also be a craft marquee and a tasting marquee with such treats as locally made fudge and Birkdale Cheese.

The show runs without a main sponsor and the organisers are grateful to receive a £700 donation from the Community Link Foundation to pay for the costs associated with closing the road for this year’s event. Planning takes place all through the year and the organisers are excited to see it all come together.

Tricia Pearce, chairman of the horticultural society, said: “For a village, it really is a big show.

“It’s not like a garden fete or a church fete, it takes a lot of organising.’’

She is organising her last event as chairman and paid tribute to all those who help.

“The show is put together by six committees and on show day it all comes together,” she said.

“When I was first told that, I didn’t believe it but it’s true and it’s a wonderful thing to see.”

Tickets are available on the day, or in advance at a discounted rate from Chocolate Box, Many Happy Returns, and Blooming Crafty, or by calling 01704 576345.
