Southport Visiter

Pupils of Mrs Petrie, where are you now?

DO you recognise any of the faces in this superb picture from a Southport school 50 years ago?

It was taken at St Philip’s CofE Primary School in either the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Among those pictured is the teacher in the classroom, Mrs Norma Petrie.

This photo was kindly sent to us by Mrs Petrie’s daughter, Zoe Petrie.

She said: “As the Visiter is asking for photos of old Southport memories, I thought I’d ask if you would consider printing a photo of a school class in the late ‘60s or early ‘70s, which shows all their little faces with their teacher, before the days of teaching assistants.

“It might be nice to ask if anyone can recognise themselves, or others in the photo and see what response you get.

“My mum Norma Petrie is the teacher in the classroom and she is now 80 years old.

“We think the children in the class were about seven or eight years old in the photo, therefore making it about 50 years ago.

“Wasn’t my mum good looking... funny how you never think that at the time. The school was St Philip’s, Southport.

“It would be lovely if some of the children in the photograph come for- ward and they could even get in touch with each other again, as well as letting mum know what happened to them over the years.

“I only know the name of one of the girls, Joanne Martin Beck, but it’s a start!”

Do you recognise any of the people in this photograph? Do you have any memories or photos of life at St Philip’s you would like to share?
