Southport Visiter

Three was a lucky mum-ber!

- BY ANDREW BROWN andrw.brownNW@trinitymirror.com @visandrewbrown

IS THIS the best Christmas present ever? The Visiter published a beautiful photo of a very proud mum in Southport with her three new babies, on December 15, 1982.

Are you one of the triplets, or the mum? Please let us know!

Meanwhile there were big changes taking place at King George V grammar school in Southport, with these landmark buildings being demolished.

Do you remember life at the old King George V?

An old shot by John Daly of the Coastal Road in Southport in 1982 – before the construction of the sea wall – shows a road sign gone wrong, saying “Delays likley”...

That car is a blast from the past too.

Next we have a lovely image of a young girl in the early 1980s, holding a bunch of daffodils, on sale for a bargain 65p.

Do you remember when we had several hospitals in Southport? Here’s one of them – Fleetwood Road Hospital, in Marshside, pictured on November 15, 1982. Southport & Formby Dis- trict General Hospital was opened by Prince Charles in 1982. At the time we also had Southport Infirmary, and a hospital on the Promenade. What are your memories of hospitals in Southport?

Finally – fitting as we are travelling back in time – we feature two gentlemen in 1983, proudly showing off some magnificent timepieces.

WHAT are your memories of Southport in the 1980s? Please email us your memories and pictures to: visiternews@ southportvisiter.co.uk or message us via the Southport Visiter Nostalgia page on Facebook.
