Pluck’s move for one reason

-

THERE is nothing wrong with the present location of Pluck’s bookmakers in Birkdale Village.

The reason they want to move into the centre of the village is to be in everybody’s faces and attract more money, and there will be plenty of mugs who will be sucked in.

I have seen people with gasguzzling cars going in there and handing over bundles of £20 notes.

And I saw someone in there one day feeding notes into one of the slot machines as if he couldn’t wait to get rid of them, and it was only 9.30 in the morning. M O’Malley Southport

NOT A NICE WALK

I WAS walking through to Dobbies recently and I think the council should do something about the “dog poo walk” as I call it.

I noticed there are no bins for people to put their dog doo bags in, so they just throw them on the floor, they burst, hence the mess.

Also the path is quite overgrown grass wise and should be cleared back.

It is generally a pleasant walk with little ones safe to run and see/ feed the horses.

Not now, due to selfish dog owners who leave mess! It’s not the dogs’ fault. Can something be done please?

I’VE GOT THE HUMP

RE 20mph speed restrictions in Southport.

All these ridiculous restrictions should be abolished save for a few places, near schools for instance, but they already have speed bumps.

What a complete waste of money spent on the signage when our roads could have been made safer by allocating money to repair pot holes and poor road surfaces.

Then there’s the do-goody parade exclaiming “nobody keeps to the speed anyway” only to have speed checks set up so that some poor s*d has to fork out a fine.

Oh the police love ’em, the motorist is just a cash cow.

I was never consulted about these conditions and perhaps the high number of retirees we have in Southport ought not to have been so selfish as to vote for speed restrictions when clearly they seem to have forgotten, unlike themselves, people are forced to use the roads to go about their work. SAD PALM HOUSE

DOES anyone care that the Hesketh Park Palm House is shut up, with valuable old plants dying inside?

The place was refurbished about 15 years ago at some cost I imagine, and will need redoing if it is just left to go to rack and ruin again.

A young man who is trying to run a business there with adults with special needs is doing his best – watering when he can.

In recent days it’s been shut up in the heat and no doubt there will be no heat in colder months.

There are plants in pots dying, and a leylandii that shouldn’t be in there is pushing its way through the roof and needs removing.

Sefton Park Palm House is a tourist attraction and wedding venue. While Hesketh Park deteriorates until in the future thousands will again need to be spent on it.

Its like locking up a zoo and leaving the animals in.

Also the observatory there has just had Lottery money spent on it but is now standing locked up.

Apparently it’s for a few exclusive people to use? Via email
