Star Wars actor to run rule over ‘best of fest’
AFILM festival showcasing the best of horror is coming to Southport The Dead of Night Film Festival will be held at the Atkinson Theatre on October 20-21, featuring eight feature films and eight shorts.
The festival is being brought to the town by Two Headed Snake Entertainment, the creative team behind Good Tidings, the Christmas-set horror movie which was filmed in the former court buildings in Southport in 2015.
Good Tidings went on to win awards around the world, before being screened in the former courtroom itself as part of Southport BID’s Spookport celebrations last year.
The team is now returning to the town to showcase the best independent horror movies around and is inviting film-makers to submit their own masterpieces.
Among the guest judging is panel is Milos Yerolemou, who appeared in the first season of Game Of Thrones and Star Wars: The Force Awakens; Jay Kay, reviewer and host of the Horror Happens Radio Show; and actress/director Jessica Cameron.
Stu Jopia, creative producer and festival director of Two Headed Snake, said: “We want audiences to have the same experience they get when watching their favourite larger budget movies, an experience in our eyes that every movie should have, screened on the big screen. “It can be hard for Independent filmmakers to get theatrical releases for their movies and we want to help get them the audiences they deserve. It’s such an important part of independent cinema and is the best way to get their movies seen around the globe.

The festival will be opened by a five-minute short created by the winners of a student competition at Southport College, while 10% of tickets sales will be donated to the Mind mental health charity.
