Ladies to unleash their Inner Warrior

- BY GRAHAM ELLIS

THE focus is on the ladies and girls at Southport RFC this Saturday at Waterloo Road where the club welcomes all females aged 15 upwards to the Inner Warrior event between 10am -12pm.

Inner Warrior is an England Rugby campaign which aims to foster the growing appetite for rugby amongst women aged 18-35.

Warrior Camps are a great introduction to the game of Rugby.

There are opportunities available for all women across the Southport community to learn the basics of rugby within a fun, non-committal environment.

The game is already embedded in the DNA of the club and this season Southport Ladies have risen to RFU Championship 2, the third tier of ladies’ rugby. With a fantastic social element to the team and passion to play rugby the team encourages all ladies and girls that would like to try out the sport to come down and give it a go.

If you would like any further information please contact Mike Dale, Director of Rugby on 07493055091.

The desire and attitude of the Ladies playing at a higher level is matched by Southport men too. The latest stage of intensive close season preparations involved a trip to Keswick last Saturday which resulted in a dogged 12-10 victory in a testing run out against a same level First team squad. The try scorers were Andy Boland and Tom Hill with Charlie Attis converting one from the touchline. Dale commented: “Great performances from all members of the squad.”

With no games this weekend attendance at training sessions next week on Tuesday and Thursday ( 7pm at the club) is vital for all teams to hit the ground running for the opening league fixtures on the following Saturday, September 2.
