Pub seeks buskers for a worthy cause

-

A PUB in Southport is hoping to help the homeless with music.

Tap and Bottles, in Cambridge Walks, is looking for buskers to play outside the doors of the pub.

Tap & Bottles owner Julian Burgess, said that the idea is that music will be heard from inside the pub and the arcade to liven up the atmosphere, while also raising money for charity.

Buskers will be paid a wage by the pub, with any money collected in the busker’s bucket going to a nominated charity.

He said: “I think it’s important for any business to support charity, especially a pub because with a pub it’s all about community.

“Homelessness has become a big problem and working in this industry which is mostly evenings, you notice it a lot more. There’s people sleeping in doorways that you wouldn’t even know were homeless if you saw them walking through town.”

During the winter months, Mr Burgess said, a heater will be provided to keep buskers warm.

The specialist beer shop has been given Camra pub of the year status for two years on the run.

If the Sunday busking sessions are a success the owner hopes to run a busking festival early next year.

Mr Burgess said: “Anyone is welcome to give it a try, we’re interested in any kind of music and hope that we can showcase some talent.”
