No presents for faithless

-

CHRISTMAS is coming for everyone.

However, material gifts were only ever intended for the baby Jesus.

Should the reported majority of no faith UK now cancel any Christmas festivities, gifts and Easter eggs, to be politically correct? Robert Bowden via email

HONEST THANKS

THROUGH your newspaper, could I please say a thank you to a very honest lady called Helen Farnon who handed in a bag of newly bought shopping to the Southport M&S store.

We had left the bag on a bench in Lord Street near the Sainsbury’s store.

This lady went to the trouble of taking the bag all the way back to M&S and handing it in.

It is so lovely to realise what honest people there are in the world... so often we hear about those who are not.

I don’t know if this lady lives in Southport or was a visitor like ourselves enjoying a day out. Perhaps someone may know her and pass on our thanks. Dot Kelk via email

JUST THE TICKET!

FOR many years the ticket office at the National Car Park off London Street was cramped and down at heel.

Recently it has been given a new coat of paint and is also much more user-friendly.

Well done NCP! Geoff Fenwick Southport

STOP NHS WHINGEING

ONCE again winter is approaching, and once again the NHS is already whingeing about not having enough money to cope.

People are getting sick just because it’s winter.

I have never heard of such a farce in all my life.

It’s a joke but it’s no laughing matter.

If I was in charge of funding I would give the NHS nothing until they balance the books.

Let people suffer, it will do them good and make a change from all the mollycoddling.

I was brought up to live within my means, when there was no such thing as a credit card, and the existence of a mobile phone was just a pipe dream.

I have never relied on a car either.

There is nothing wrong with walking, but people can’t do that anymore.

They are instead at the hospital getting sick, and once again, whingeing about the parking arrangements. They want it all for nothing. M O’Malley

PUGH SO VOCAL NOW

I MUST be mistaken. I thought John Pugh had resigned as MP. He is here, there and everywhere. Constantly piping up about Southport.

It’s a shame he wasn’t so active in the town when he actually had the power to bring about changes.

BUILD ON WOODVALE

THE January 2015 Report on the Local Plan for Sefton quotes the Ministry of Defence objecting to proposals for the development of an area in Ainsdale/Woodvale and having “no objection to the area in question being identified for future housing development” but at present, on safety grounds, the proposed development would be “incompatible with the ongoing use of the aerodrome.”

The Defence Secretary recently revealed on the Today programme the projected sale of some defence lands to finance the building of Navy frigates.
