AN APPEAL has been made to find the “mindless person” who drove through a local turf company’s field and caused about £10,000 damage.

The culprit gained access to the property before doing “doughnuts” and handbrake turns on the field to ruin the turf.

The damage was discovered on Friday morning by staff at Lancashire Turf Supplies Ltd, in Smithy Lane, Scarisbrick.

The company has appealled for information and a spokesperson for the firm said: “We went in to work on Friday morning to find this, some mindless person decided to do doughnuts and handbrake turns in a car on our turf field, 16 months’ work ruined.

“We are gutted, that turf is grown for local golf courses. Our appeal has been very positive and I think we have a lead.”

The firm supplies turf and other products including top soil, stone, tools, lawnmowers and more to businesses and sports facilities across the UK.

The owner of Lancashire Turf Supplies Ltd, Andrew Church, said: “This is damaging to the business. A percentage of the field is ruined and will have to be scrapped when it is harvested. While we are not sure how much money will be lost exactly, we think it will be a loss of approximately £10,000.

“The lack of respect people have is shocking.”

Lancashire police have confirmed that the incident took place between 7pm on Thursday, Oct- ober 5 and 7am on Friday, October 6.

Inquiries are still ongoing and people who may have seen anything, or who have any information are now being urged to call the police.

Anyone with information should call Lancashire police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The incident number is SB1704450.
