Loading bay may replace disabled spaces in town

-

TWO DISABLED parking spaces in Southport town centre could be moved after a request from Southport BID.

BID is asking Sefton Council to remove the disabled bay outside The Albert pub and Temperance Institute on London Street following requests from local businesses.

If approved, the bay would be moved to outside The Office restaurant and bar on Hoghton Street.

The proposal is expected to be agreed any time before October 18, unless any objections are raised.

A report by council officers said: “A request has been received from the Southport BID for amendments to be made to the existing loading bays / disabled parking bay situated on London Street, Southport.

“Traders have approached the BID to outline problems they are having in gaining access to the loading bay due to the adjacent disabled bay, and also that the bay is not large enough to accommodate the number of vehicles that wish to use it.

“They have requested that the loading bay be extended to include the existing disabled bay which can accommodate two vehicles.

“In addition to the two spaces identified above, there are a further three or four disabled parking spaces on this part of London Street.

“It is proposed to replace the existing disabled parking bay situated outside The Albert, and which can accommodate two vehicles, with a loading bay.”
