Horror movies as they should be seen – on the big screen

-

THE Atkinson welcomes The Dead of Night Film Festival on October 20-21 as part of Southport Hallowe’en Festival.

The objective of this festival is to bring new independent horror trailers, shorts and feature length films to the horror-loving public.

The festival is brought to you by Two-Headed Snake Entertainment, the creative team behind the award-winning festive horror movie Good Tidings.

So rest assured this festival is made for horror fans, by horror fans, looking to give audiences the same experience they get when watching their favourite larger budget movies on the big screen, an experience that every movie should have.

It can be hard for independent filmmakers to get theatrical releases for their movies.

It’s such an important part of independent cinema and the best way to get their movies seen around the globe.

The film festival will screen eight short films and eight feature films within the horror genre and all its wonderful sub genres, there will be Q&As with directors and cast, special guests and a whole lot more horrific fun.

Films include: Night of Something Strange, Who’s Watching Oliver, Borley Rectory, The Barn, Circus of the Dead, Dead Shack, Sequence Break, Cannibals and Carpet Fitters.

Short films include: The Corpse Series, Death Metal, Your Date is Here, Curve, The Offer, The Summoner, DeamonRun- ner and Creswick. Extra events include: Pop-Up Puppet Cinema – Punch & Judy meets Hollywood as Pop-up Puppet Cinema perform adaptations of your favourite movies, lovingly mocked and condensed into a short live show.

Making a Monster – The SFX master Andy Savage (Savage SFX) will be showcasing his artistic special Fx skills as we see him transform his subject into a hideous monster.

Awards and prizes will be given out on the night and guest judges include: Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser and Nightbreed), Jessica Cameron (Truth or Dare, Mania), Jay Kay (Horror Happens Radio Show) and Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones).

The winners will receive the coveted Golden VHS Cassette Award.
