Help raise funds for new park library

-

A COMMUNITY library project is hoping to raise funds for the new facility through a sponsored Hallowe’en walk.

Planning permission has been granted for it in the Old Bowls Pavilion in Botanic Gardens, replacing Churchtown Library on Mill Lane which was demolished in 2014.

Despite campaigners’ best efforts to save it, that building was demolished under Sefton Council at a cost of £70,000. The land was then put up for sale with housing developers taking ownership.

The plan for the new library in the gardens is being led by the community for the community, to serve the people of Churchtown, Crossens, Marshside and High Park.

Elaine Langley, secretary of North Meols Library Association, said: “As ever funds are needed to keep our project on track. We need to cover legal fees, regulatory costs associated with the development of the building and much more. If you are up for a fun day out and help raise funds along the way please join us.”

The spooky walk will start at 11am on Sunday, October 30 at the site of the former Churchtown Library on Mill Lane. The walkers will take a route leading them to the new library location. Points of interest will be pointed out along the way and costumes are optional.

A fee of £5 is requested which will cover the cost of insurance, and tea and biscuits at the Bold Arms.

Further donations from sponsors welcome.
