Love curse strikes as Mitch fails to find TV date twice
ASOUTHPORT man has failed to find love on a TV dating show – for the second time.
Mitch Mimms, 21, appeared on ITV’s Dress To Impress, where he competed with two other men for a date.
In order to win the date, the three men were given a time limit to go shopping on a budget to buy an outfit for the girl they were trying to win a date with, Becky Page.
Things started well for Mitch, who made it through to the second, and final, round.
But unfortunately for him, Becky preferred his rival contestant’s outfit and Mitch left without a date.
Mitch, from Birkdale, said: “It was harder than I thought it was going to be, as I’m always going clothes shopping with girl mates and my mother and they seem to listen to what I say regarding fashion, but shopping for someone I didn’t know was intense.
“I was kind of secondguessing every choice, but then eventually you just have to buy something due to the time constraints.”
This isn’t the first time the University of Salford student has been unlucky in love on a TV show, however, as he also appeared on an episode of Take Me Out that aired in June this year.
As a result, he managed to secure himself a date, but the 27-year-old he selected felt they were not suited to each other.
Mitch, who is a Michael Jackson tribute act, said: “I got a date, but she was 27 and the age gap was too much of an issue for her, unfortunately.”
He was then contacted by the creators of Dress To Impress, and he wanted to use his appearance on the show as a “redemption.”
But things did not go to plan for him.
He said: “I was a bit disappointed as I was trying to use this show as redemption for getting rejected on Take Me Out, but watching the show back the brief did say colourful and I bought her all black, so I can only blame myself.
“I just bought her an outfit that I personally would like my date to wear, and I think she still looked really good in it.
“I guess getting rejected on TV has become my trademark.”
He still looks at his TV appearances as a positive, however, adding: “I don’t think anyone regards these shows as the be-all and end-all of their dating life.
“I personally just enjoy the whole experience as I’m in my third year of studying media and performance at university, so it really gets me excited seeing how the show is put together behind the scenes.
“Being on TV shows is just a great environment and a good laugh. If I got a date out of it, it just would have been a bonus!”
But his two failed attempts to find love haven’t discouraged Mitch.
He added: “I’ve had a couple more offers in [for TV shows], so fingers crossed they come off but also keep your eyes peeled a bit further into winter.
“I’ll be popping up on one of the major channels looking for love again – let’s see if I break the curse.”
Mitch’s episode of Dress To Impress is available on the ITV Hub.
