E Street Band are born to run on in league

E Street Band continued their rollercoas­ter season with a fine 44-34 victory at Formby Sports, ending the Formby side’s 100% record.

Alan Wright 17 and Geoff Hedley and Dave Nickeas, both 10, led for the visitors with Gary Buxton 13 leading the reply.

Fishermen’s Rest gained their first points of the season with a 43-28 victory over Quads led by good scoring from John Ashcroft and Dave Tarr, both 12, and Steve Murphy 11 with Richard Farbon 18 leading for Quads.

Casablanca maintained their 100% record with a 57-45 victory at Devonshire Club, a match in which both sides had a player with a full house, Ian Jackson 18 for Devonshire and Ray Oakes 20 for the visitors. For Casablanca, Dave Dutton 16, Chris Sumner 11 and Bill Thomas 10 also made useful contributi­ons and John Richards 14 and Steve Wilson 10 for the hosts. Wings were always ahead at their old rivals Zetland and pulled away at the end to finish at 58-46 ahead with strong scoring from Tom Farley 19 (including a full house), Dag Griffiths 16 and Keith Mulhearn 15 with John Clarke 18, Harry Owen 12 and Paul Edwards 11 leading the reply.

In Division Two, leaders ExPats lost the first round 8-1 and were comprehens­ively beaten 41-18 by newcomers Mixed Blues led by good scoring from Eddie Davies 16 and Jim McGrath 11.

Closest game was Ainsdale Sands’ 31-28 victory over MPs led by Jack Gardner 15 with Ann Evans 13 and Chris Hodgen 12 leading for the visitors.

Led by Steve James 12 and Chris Wood 10, Exams returned to winning ways with a 36-30 victory over St Jeromes with Tony Hart 11 leading for the Formby side.

In the other match, Dismounted won at Vikings, with the latter having lost the scoresheet.
