Bedbugs bit baby at Pontins

her bum and her legs, five around her mouth and on her hands and then some on her arms.

“We didn’t think it was bedbugs because we weren’t waking up with them and had got the same linen.

“She is usually such a happy little girl but she was so miserable. When we were out she seemed fine but the minute we were back in the apartment and she would be in her cot she would cry.

“She would happily fall asleep on our beds but didn’t want to be anywhere near her cot.

“But we put it down to her being in a different place.”

Emma, a nursery worker, took Gracie-Mai to her GP, where she was told the bites had been caused by bedbugs in the mattress. She said: “I felt disgusting and appalled.”

She had to keep her daughter off nursery and wash all the family’s clothes to make sure the bugs had not travelled.

The family made a complaint to Southport Pontins but said they have had no response.

Emma added: “It is absolutely appalling. This is a 16-month-old baby and they haven’t even acknowledged our complaint.

“There could have been a young baby in those cots and something a lot worse could have happened.

“Luckily, Gracie has a good immune system but we have had to treat her with cream and give her ibuprofen to bring down her temperature as her body was fighting the infection.”

She added: “We went to have a nice time and my mum spent nearly £300 on the trip, but it was ruined for Gracie and us.

“And then to not have even had an apology or any sort of acknowledgment it really is disgusting.”

A spokesperson for Pontins Southport said: “We were sorry to hear that Ms Bate’s daughter had suffered insect bites, and we are now in touch with the family to try to resolve their comments.”
