New owner turns around takeaway’s star ratings

-

A PIZZA and kebab shop in Crossens, Southport, has gone from a one-star hygiene rating to four in the space of three months.

La Mamma Pizza and Kebab House, on Rufford Road, was featured in The Visiter’s breakdown of shock one-star eateries in Southport back in August.

Inspectors had deemed ‘major improvement necessary’ regarding management of food safety. Improvement was also deemed necessary for hygienic food handling and general cleanliness of the building and facilities.

New owner Yanko Terziev was employed at La Mamma at the time of its rating. He said the one star “was no good” and was mainly down to electrical issues, missing documents and lack of allergy hygiene awareness.

Yanko decided to take matters into his own hands when he took over the takeaway and has now managed to get a four star rating from the Food Standards Agency (FSA). Inspectors gave the rating on October 5, 2017.

Mr Terziev said: “I’m trying to do the best for the customer. I’ve bought new equipment and every day I use fresh products for the food. We’ve been getting good reviews on Just Eat and improved our delivery time too.”

Star ratings are reviewed each time the FSA carry out an inspection. How often a premises is inspected depends on the type of food they are preparing, so places that handle raw and cooked foods will be inspected more often. The time between inspections can be six months for the highest risk establishments, to two years for those that are lower risk.
