National award honour for care homes

-

A SOUTHPORT care group has been recognised with a major national award.

Cedars Care Group’s Woodlands Manor and Cedar Grange are among 14 homes from around the UK to receive a Quality Hallmark Award from the National Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Centre, the UK’s largest provider of training in end-of-life care for health and social professionals.

Staff received the award from Vic Rayner, executive director of the National Care Forum, at a recent ceremony in London.

Lyndsey Floyd, manager at Cedars Care Group, said “I am absolutely delighted to have achieved this award for our homes, our dedicated team have worked exceptionally hard, I would like to say a huge thank you to our group GSF coordinator, Vanessa Rigby, for her dedication and commitment to both homes enabling us to excel in becoming Commended GSF homes.

“We always strived to give the best possible care to our residents, but the GSF programme has made us rethink the whole way we work and plan our residents’ care, giving us a whole new perspective.

“This in turn has made all the staff feel much more confident about providing care for our residents, right up until the end of their life.”

GSF Quality Hallmark Awards are presented to homes that demonstrate real improvement in the quality of care they provide.

Homes must achieve 20 quality standards, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect, as well as submit a portfolio of evidence.

Anne Keating, managing director of GSF, said: “Cedar Grange and Woodlands have both demonstrated not only a commitment to care for its residents according to their wishes right up until the end of their lives, but also put in place all of the measures required to ensure that it can actually provide that personalised, compassionate care.

“Both homes should be congratulated for putting gold quality care at the heart of what it does for all its residents.”

Three thousand care homes have completed the GSF Care Homes programme since it was launched in 2004 and more than 600 have gone on to become accredited.
