Rugby ladies give fundraiser a try
SOUTHPORT Rugby Club’s grand marquee proved the perfect venue to host the 4th Annual Ladies Day.
This year’s, created and organised by Sue Astwood, in association with one of the club’s new partners, Crabbie’s, featured the First XV match versus Sefton as the backdrop while 250 guests enjoyed a turkey crown lunch with all the trimmings as the gin and prosecco flowed.
Club photographer Angus Matheson was on hand to capture the action on and off the pitch.
Hosted by Trevor Ford and Andrew Heggarty from Mighty Radio the ladies enjoyed a “full-on” afternoon watching a famous 24-22 Southport victory and richly entertained by Liverpool solo artiste Liza B to dance their way well into the evening.
The theme of the day was headwear – as befitting this year’s chosen charities Brain tumour Cancer Foundation and Head Case.
The “It’s all about the hat” award was won by Michelle Mawdsley who received a hamper donated by Renacres Hospital.
As well as Crabbie’s and Renacres, Sue Astwood thanked all the sponsors, including Ludlows, Pete Thwaites, Paul Morrissey, Mercedes Benz, Wigan Beer Company, Premier Balloons, Ramada Plaza, Fusco Coaches and Inspired Flowers of Birkdale.
In all, more than £2,000 was raised for the charities.
Thanks also go to A-Z Marquees, Louise Dale and her catering team, Mark Astwood, Mike Dale and the bar staff, and to the SRFC Colts team who did a fantastic job waiting on all day.
Since the event, Sue has been overwhelmed with the feedback and said that the benchmark had definitely been set for future ladies days.
Next season, subject to the fixture list, this is likely to be in September.
More than half the tables have already sold so if you are interested in attending, contact Sue on 07598 429179 as soon as possible.
