TUDOR Bank Nursing Home in Southport has been awarded the highest rating of ‘outstanding’ after a visit by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in July.

Only a small number of homes manage to score outstanding in the area of care.

In the report published by the CQC in August, the inspectors noted: “The people living at the service and their relatives spoke extremely positively about the quality of care and the positive impact that the service had on people’s lives.

“Staff were exceptionally knowledgeable and demonstrated a caring and gentle approach throughout the inspection.”

The inspection also detailed the extremely homely and welcoming nature of Tudor Bank, noting how each bedroom was uniquely decorated to fit the personality of the residents and how the shared areas were maintained in a comfortable state.

A few examples strongly highlight the outstanding level of care that the residents receive and the willingness of all the staff to go beyond the norm.

One such instance details a person who was admitted with complex health conditions that required a high level of nursing, however within four months their condition had improved to the point where they were given support to move out of the home and live independently.

This is a rare occurrence for any home and was attributed to ‘excellent, dedicated nursing care.’

There is also another example of a dementia patient at the home who had swallowing problems and kept themselves completely isolated at all times.

Staff at the home however worked alongside specialists to encourage the person to attend appointments and this eventually led to them eating regularly again and also fully integrating and participating in all group activities with the other residents.

These examples demonstrate how staff at Tudor Bank regularly exceed expectations and why the home was given the outstanding rating for care by the CQC

The staff and residents, alongside their next of kin, jointly celebrated the success.

Manager of the home Joshy Abraham commented: “The CQC inspect once every two years, however we treat it as if they are here everyday as you have all witnessed and this is now reflected in the latest rating of the home.”
