Kids box it up for food bank
TWO Southport youngsters have given Southport Food Bank a special and very welcome surprise.
Rather than buying one of the ever-more-expensive Advent calendars flooding the market, Joseph and Darcey’s mum, Danni, decided to show them how to help others by making Advent Food Boxes instead.
Julie Woods, at Shoreline Food Bank, was only too happy to help.
Armed with lists of the sort of items needed, Joseph and Darcey set off to find the 24 items needed to make up a traditional l Advent calendar – but with h a twist.
The result was the two o food hampers they delivered to the helpers at the food bank, all packed up and ready to be handed over.
The ‘well done’ certificates they received will remind them to keep on thinking of others.
Their mum was so pleased with how it had shown her children the importance of helping others first that Danni took to social media to invite others to do the same.
Posting details on her Facebook page, Danni suggested other mums might want to help too.
She said: “There are people right here in Southport who are dreading the coming of Christmas. “Through no fault of th their own, they will struggl gle to be able to give prese sents to their children. “Some are even witho out food or the money to b buy any. “My children are very f fortunate and I want t them to remember their responsibility to help those who are less so.” Julie will be happy to help anyone who wants to make Southport super s special this Christmas too.
