Southport Visiter

Rock up to see our very own pantomime!

-

HAPPY New Year everybody! The time has come – we’re ready to rock Southport! All Souls Dramatic Club’s production of Beauty and the Beast, a modern family pantomime, opens on Thursday, January 11 at The Atkinson Theatre.

Now we put in the finishing touches to this magical tale ready to bring it to life to the audiences of Southport.

Since first auditioning the cast way back on August 13, the group have met twice a week to practise their dialogue, scenes, dances and songs, equating to over 4,000 hours of rehearsal from the 40-strong cast and it has been worth every minute.

Our cast ranges from males and females aged between 16 up to 84 and all have a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Some have never performed before, others have performed for over 40 years but everybody loves doing it.

We often refer to our group as a family and in some cases we literally are!

The club chairman, Sue Hardiker, not only shares the stage with her beloved husband, she also gets to perform alongside her daughter Sophie.

The club director and resident Dame, Cliff Gillies, shares scenes with his wife whom he met through the club; even the production manager is married to the leading lady!

We’ve got mother/daughter duos amongst the cast as well as the head of wardrobe and choreographer.

We always say All Souls is so much more than a pantomime and the group have loved getting together to produce a stunning theatrical sensation for the families in the town.

Beauty and the Beast opens at The Atkinson Theatre in Southport on Thursday, January 11 until Sunday, January 22 and tickets are still on sale.

They can be purchased from the box office on Lord Street, by phone on 01704 533333 or online on The Atkinson website.
