SCHOOLS ST MARY’S COLLEGE PREPARATORY, HOLY TRINITY PRIMARY

-

St Mary’s College Preparatory School ST MARY’S College Prep pupils collected 3,510 unwanted pairs of glasses to help improve eye care in Africa.

The school was supporting an Every Pair Counts Appeal launched by Vision Aid Overseas.

Vision Aid Overseas works to transform eye care services in Africa and uses money made from recycling unwanted glasses to fund its work – which has helped more than one million people in the past 30 years.

The Crosby school managed to co-ordinate the efforts of many participants who supported the appeal, including local parishes.

Children from other primary schools contributed as well, and the appeal was backed by staff in numerous workplaces.

St Mary’s College Preparatory School headmaster Jonathan Webster said: “Everyone at the school was delighted when the final count was done and we realised that there were more than 3,500 pairs in total.

“We would like to send our heartfelt thanks all those who have been involved and contributed to this exceptionally worthy cause.”

Holy Trinity Primary School THE staff and pupils at Holy Trinity Primary School set out to travel 4,627km (2,875 miles) – the distance from Southport to Aleppo – without actually leaving the town last summer.

Participants were asked to cover the distance collectively, by running, cycling, hopping and skipping, while keeping track of the distances and the kilometres were totalled in class.

The challenge was to help raise money for families
