THE company behind The Sandgrounder plans, now owns another venue in Southport town centre.

Burning Night Group announced that The Sandgrounder on Lord Street would close to undergo a £1m transformation in October last year.

Now, the same company has acquired the freehold interest in the Albert Hotel on London Street, opposite Southport train station, for its new brand, Authentic Alehouses.

Authentic Alehouses targets freehold pubs, offering refurbishment before running as principally non-tenanted pubs.

Allan Harper, the director of Authentic Alehouses, insisted they were pleased to acquire this unit and look forward to announcing their plans.

He said: “This is a great building and, as with all the sites we take on, we have a brilliant refurbishment planned.

“We are confident that this unit can become one of our flagship Authentic Alehouses sites, we have some exciting things in store and look forward to celebrating the opening with the people of Southport.”

Burning Night Group also owns brands including Bierkeller, Shooters Bar and Around The World.

The Sandgrounder pub is to be converted into two venues.

It is to become Potting Shed bar and gardens on the ground floor, and FirePit Smokehouse & Sports Bar on the upper level and outdoor terrace.

The recent Albert Hotel deal was brokered by Ian Taylor of leisure property specialist Fleurets, who said: “Situated directly opposite Southport Railway Station, the property consists of a large ground floor trading area and also includes a one bed flat.”
