A SOUTHPORT mum of three ran more than 100 miles in a month to help break the stigma of mental health.

Claire Louise Crompton, 38, from Southport, successful­ly completed Run Every Day (RED) January on Wednesday (January 31).

RED January is a scheme supported by Mind, the mental health charity, where people are encouraged to be active every day in the first month of the year.

Mind says it is not only a “a brilliant way to kick-start the New Year, but in taking part you are helping to raise awareness and open up the conversati­on about mental health”.

Claire has managed to raise about £350 for Mind by running an average of 5km each day.

She said: “I am shocked and overwhelme­d by the support I have received, my target was only £100.”

During this time, she also managed to lose half a stone in weight, allowing her to hit her Slimming World target.

Claire is already an experience­d runner, as she has competed in races, completed two half marathons last year and has been part of Southport Parkrun for just over a year.

But the former Greenbank High School pupil was still slightly nervous about having to run everyday.

She explained: “I have running experience, but I have never run this frequently. I was apprehensi­ve at first.

“I managed to run 5k every day, and by the end I had travelled a total of 104.62 miles.”

During this time, Claire has braved terrible weather conditions including hail and ice.
