TWO bus services in Southport will be diverted for more than a week after a sewer collapsed on the route.

The 46 and 46a Arriva bus services, which run from Russell Road to Carr Lane, are no longer travelling down Kew Road.

This is due to maintenance work being carried out on the collapsed sewer.

The revised service will travel via Duke Street, Cemetery road, South- bank Road, Town Lane and then proceeding onto Guildford Road where the route will resume as normal.

The diversion came into operation on Monday, February 12, and it is thought that repairs will take more than a week.

A spokesperson for Arriva said: “We can confirm that due to maintenance issues on Kew Road, the number 46 and 46a have been diverted.

“Both services will revert back to the original route once the issue has been resolved on Friday, February 23.”

COMMUTERS between Southport and Liverpool faced long delays after a manhole cover collapsed early on Tuesday near the Formby bypass.

Merseyside police warned of serious delays during rush hour after the hole was discovered on Altcar Road, near Burlington Avenue.

Temporary traffic lights were installed at the scene, with barriers set up to allow engineers access for repair work.

Sefton Council said that the work was due to be completed today (Thursday).
