AT LEAST 12 burglaries have been reported in Southport in just two weeks. From January 24 to February 7, an alarming amount of residential burglaries were reported to Merseyside police.

The incidents have been reported to have taken place in Althorpe Drive, Cypress Road, King Street, Mill Lane, Ruddington Road, Forest Road, Old Links Close, Botanic Road, Portland Street, Saxon Road, Preston New Road and Hampton Road.

Multiple incidents have been reported, involving burglars breaking into sheds and outhouses, in streets such as Cypress Road, King Street, Mill Lane, Forest Road, Botanic Road and Portland Street.

In four of the incidents, car keys and vehicles have been stolen, and police believe that keys were obtained via a cat flap in one incident.

Merseyside police have issued a crime alert, and is offering advice to homeowners.

Local policing inspector Graham Fisher said: “We would like to reassure the community that we take these type of crimes extremely seriously and are constantly working with partner agencies and communities to identify the offenders responsible and bring them to justice.

“We understand how distressing being a victim of a burglary can be and incidents such as these will not be tolerated by Merseyside police.

“I would encourage members of the public to take small, but important steps to help minimise the appeal for opportune burglars to strike.

“I would urge local residents to check their front doors, windows and garage doors are locked to prevent becoming easy targets, and ensure your car keys and valuables are safely out of sight.

“We would encourage people to keep an eye on any vulnerable or elderly friends, family members or neighbours.”

Burglaries can be reported via Merseyside police’s social media desk, by calling 101, or call 999 if a crime is in progress.

Alternatively, residents can also call the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously and for free, on 0800 555 111.
