AMUM-OF-TWO is lucky to be alive after crashing through a fence and flipping her car on the way to Southport’s Mad Dog 10k.

Alex Wilson, 41, was travelling from Stoke-on-Trent to take part in the race, and the accident took place as she was leaving the M58,

She said: “My car just started to spin. (I was driving at) 70 miles an hour and I lost control just like that.

“I started yelling; ‘ No, no, please God no, my children need me’ and I thought; ‘I’m going to be killed’.”

The car crashed through a fence and began to flip over, before crashing into a tree.

Alex added: “As my car crashed through the fence I was thrown about under my seat belt, and I covered my head with my arms.

“That feeling of being thrown seemed to last forever and then the car stopped, thanks to the tree.”

Once the vehicle came to a halt, Alex began to panic as she couldn’t open her door or windows to get out of the vehicle.

She said: “I didn’t know if I’d rolled down an embankment and thought; ‘What if nobody can see my car?’.”

Fortunately, two men soon came to Alex’s rescue and managed to call for help, and get her out of the vehicle.

The mother-of-two added: “I kept hearing one of them say- ing; ‘How has she escaped that, how has she walked out of that’?.

“The men, paramedics, police, hospital staff were all absolutely amazing. The policeman said how unbelievably lucky I was.”

Merseyside police tweeted an image of the damaged vehicle at the time, which was captioned: “Be careful this morning. It’s icy and the roads are slippy!

“We’re just recovering this one off the side of the M58 where the driver had a lucky escape.”

Luckily, although she has some minor injuries, Alex survived the crash without serious injury.

She added: “My chest started hurting, then my shin and just about every other part of my body has joined in the pain. I now have two tiny bruises and that’s it. “I am one very lucky person.” This experience hasn’t discouraged her from running in the Mad Dog 10K, however, as she is planning to buy a ticket for next year. y
