Contracts that bind us all: live!

-

THEATRE pioneers Gecko will be presenting The Wedding at the Liverpool Playhouse. With imagery, provocative narrative and through movement performed by a talented ensemble cast, The Wedding delves into the deep chasms of human nature and the complexities of the relationships we encounter in daily life.

Fast-paced, visually stunning, epic in scale and intimate in emotion, the production challenges audiences to think of the contracts we are bound to – in work, in love, with friends and with family.

The Wedding is one of Gecko’s biggest and most ambitious productions to date.

Known for their unique style and approach, the company brought Institute to the Playhouse in autumn 2016 and have received critical acclaim from audiences around the world.

Amit Lahav, The Wedding creator, said: “Inspiration for creating work is all around us. It’s in our personal lives, in the news, politics, and in the relationships that we have with our friends, families and colleagues.

“By delving further into these relationships, I was struck by a sense that we are all married, bound by the many con- tracts of modern life. The Wedding is inspired by these complexities of human nature: the struggle between love and anger, creation and destruction, community and isolation.

“For this show we have created a dystopian world in which every one of us is a bride, wedded to society.

“But what are the terms of this relationship? “And can we consider a divorce?” Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director at the Everyman & Playhouse said: “Theatre, dance, magic, ambition… somewhere in the cocktail of these elements sits the splendour of a Gecko show.

“Relatively new to Liverpool, here as in other cities around the world this company are growing an audience for jaw-dropping theatre.”

In the run up to their show at the Playhouse, Gecko have worked to engage young people from a wide range of backgrounds in the area to help them produce their own piece of physical theatre.

The group involved in the project – aged from 16 to 24 – performed their work at the Everyman in December and have also been invited to take part in a Gecko manifesto workshop this month.

The Wedding visits Liverpool Playhouse from February 21-24 for a total of four performances.

Tickets are available at: www.everymanplayhouse. com/ whats- on/ thewedding or by calling the box office on 0151 709 4776.
