ABRAVE Southport schoolgirl is about to cut off 16 inches of her waist-length hair to help kids with cancer.

Ciera-Mae Smith, whose hair is currently 26 inches long, is planning to cut her hair into a short ‘bob’ in order to donate her hair to charity.

The seven-year-old intends to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young adults who have sadly lost their hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

The Shoreside Primary School pupil is also fundraising in school by making and selling friendship bracelets and hair accessories.

Her mother, Kellyanne Varey, 26, said: “The Little Princess Trust is an amazing charity that gets no help with funding apart from donations from people like ourselves.

“When she first told me her plans, I was gutted as I really love her long hair but it has all been her own idea and I am very proud of her.

“Whenever anyone asks her why she is doing this, she explains how it will help other children and how if she doesn’t like her hair short, it will always grow back.

“Please help support Ciera if you can and hopefully we can spread the message that just one child can make a huge difference to others.”

The idea to donate her hair to charity came after the option was mentioned by a teacher at school, and Ciera-Mae was keen to help others with her donation.

A spokesperson for The Lit- tle Princess Trust said: “It’s such a brave decision to cut off a lot of hair but we are hugely grateful to Ciera-Mae as we currently have a particular need for hair donations that are over 12”/30cm in order to make longer wigs.

“Thank you so much, Ciera-Mae and all of your supporters!”

Ciera-Mae, from Woodvale, aims to raise around £500 for the charity.

The haircut is set to take place at Jason James salon, on Hoghton Street in Southport, on n April 7 at 1pm.
