Who will succeed Gwen as our Miss Southport for 2018?
THE search for Miss Southport 2018 has officially begun. The Miss England team, who organise Miss Southport, are on the lookout for contestants who will be a role model and who will promote her town.
Pat Hughes, the local heat organiser of Official Miss England/Miss World contests, is involved in leading the search to find the next Miss Southport.
Pat said: “Unlike most beauty pageants, the Miss England contest is very charity-based and contestants participate in a sports round, talent round, eco round and a charity fundraising round.
“We are looking for a contestant who will be a role model and someone who will use her title to promote her town and events in her town as well as raise awareness of good causes and charities in their area.
“It isn’t just about looks, it’s about your personality as well.”
All money raised will be donated to Community Link Foundation, a charity which fundraises for groups and individuals in the local community.
The winner of Miss Southport 2018 will automatically be entered into the Miss England 2018 competition later in the year, where the winner will be entered into Miss World 2018.
In order to recruit enterants, and raise awareness of the competition, Pat and her team will be attending the UK Hot Car event, held at the Marine Lake, in Southport, on Easter Sunday, April 1.
The current Miss Southport, Gwen Raby, will also be in attendance at the event, which runs from 12.30pm until 3.30pm.
Pat is encouraging anyone aged 16-26 who is interested in participating to attend, either to enrol or to discuss the possibility of entering.
Applications are now open and will close on April 5.
The Miss Southport competition is open to residents of Southport and Formby, and the final will take place on Friday, May 18 at The Olympia in Liverpool.
