Exhibition is simply picture perfect . . .
SOME of the best British amateur photography will be on public display in Southport from this weekend.
It is thanks to Southport Photographic Society running a national photo competition each year in association with the British Photographic Exhibitions.
The award-winning photographs will be displayed in Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street from March 24 until April 8, and guests can enter the exhibit free of charge.
The prestigious competition is judged by two teams of nationally accredited judges. One judges the colour and monochrome categories and the other judges the nature competition entries.
Interestingly, out of the 18 national exhibitions, the Southport gallery is one of a few that accept prints and digital images.
Photographers from all over the country faced fierce competition to get into the Southport exhibition, as fewer than 20 per cent of entries were successful.
This year’s winning photographs range from a stag in a snowy Scottish setting “Stag at Glen Etive” by Jane Lines in the nature prints to the gloriously muddy “Side Car splash” by Fred Parkinson in the colour section.
There are also fantasy portraits on display such as Christine Widdal’s “Boudicca” and award-win- ning sports shots featuring boxing boxing, rugby and motor sport.
Photographs of Sefton will also be featured in the exhibition, as nature entries from Southport Photographic Society members Trevor Davenport and Ian McLean were taken locally.
Trevor Devenport said: “The Sefton coast is one of the most special habitats in the world.”
Each photograph on display has been judged and awarded the appropriate reward by judges.
Organisers are also encouraging those who would like to to improve their photo skills whilst getting to know others who share their interest to attend the weekly meetings of the Southport Photographic Society.
