It alright for Whyte & Linnets in survival

BURSCOUGH thrust Barnton aside last weekend as they strengthened their survival hopes with a 4-2 victory over the Hallmark Security League strugglers.

Barnton are bottom of the table having won just one game all season, and striker Chad Whyte took full advantage of a side who have now conceded a massive 138 goals this season.

He was the hero once again for Linnets as he bagged a hat-trick, taking his tally for the season up to 14 in all competitions.

He took to social media after the victory, saying: “”Great win and my first Burscough hat-trick! Get in!”

The victory propelled Burscough seven points clear of the drop-zone, and despite having played one game more than fellow strugglers Maine Road, Sutton’s side now look in good shape to avoid a second consecutive relegation.

Linnets face a massive game on Saturday, however, as they play the fourth of five consecutive home matches against AFC Liverpool.

The Little Reds are in the relegation zone and are currently nine points behind Burscough, but with two games in hand on Sutton’s men, a good result is crucial to continuing their push away from danger.

This weekend’s fixture also sparks the beginning of a busy week for Burscough, who welcome Northwich Victoria on Tuesday in their Macron Cup quarter-final before travelling to Congleton Town four days later to play their first away game since February.

With Congleton five points above Burscough in the table, two victories in the league in the following week would see the club occupying a mid-table position as the league enters the final stages of competition.

This would be some success for the club considering they did not register their first victory of the season until the end of October.
