Great Scott has his eye on survival bid

- Matically unable to avoid the drop. Convincing wins for both Waterloo A and B teams at the top of division three have given them the chance to clinch promotion in their next matches, and with 128pts apiece Waterloo A are now favourites to land the title,

SKELMERSDALE United continued their push away from the relegation zone with a superb 2-0 victory over Colne last weekend.

Scott Bakkor - who notched a nine-minute treble away at Kendal Town last weekend to turn the scoreline on its head at 2-0 down - continued his scintillating form as his double put mid-table Colne to the sword.

Dave Powell’s men rounded off a positive week for the club - who had already picked up four points in the same week after drawing with Trafford and overcoming Kendal - with a victory that moved them ten points clear of the drop.

And Powell was naturally delighted with his side.

“Overall I thought the first-half performance was one of our best of the season,” he said after the game. “Colne came out in the second-half and made a real go of it, there was snow and wind swirling, but we dug in.

“A clean sheet is something we always strive for but I’m particularly pleased today. We came under some pressure but saw it off for an important three points.”

Bakkor was also praised by the boss, who has had a big impact since coming into the side with five goals in his previous two games.

“I’m delighted for Scott, he really deserves it,” Powell said, before speaking about the player’s transition from winger to centre forward.

“That’s his best position (striker) in my mind, and I’m made up with his performance.”

Before the game Powell made the decision to reinstall goalkeeper Chris Cheetham, and the clean-sheet certainly rewarded the manager’s move.

Cheetham said: “We dealt with their quick wingers quite well, didn’t give them many opportunities”.
