All Shook Up over the King
REHEARSALS are well underway for the next exciting production by the multi-award winning Southport youth musical theatre company, SONG.
The choice this time is All Shook Up, a musical based upon, and inspired by the music of Elvis Presley from a book by Joe Dipietro, and based loosely on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.
The setting of the show is somewhere in mid-west America during the 1950s and centres around the character Chad, who has recently been released from prison.
He rides into town with new ideas about making it a more adventurous and exciting place – a place where music and any form of enjoyment for the people of the town is outlawed by the Mayor!.
Boy meets girl, girl meets boy, with twists and turns throughout the story.
Within the show are the well known songs like Jailhouse rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Hound Dog, One Night With You, It’s Now Or Never, Love Me Tender, Can’t Help Falling In Love, All Shook Up and many more.
The cast have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into rehearsals with enthusiasm, guided by the experienced production team of Les Gomersall (director), Jenny Birch (choreographer) and Charles Moss (musical director).
The show is being overseen by Karen Finch Edge as production co-ordinator and backed up by a very hardworking committee.
The production promises to be a visual extravaganza of imaginative staging and lively dance routines.
And the music of the show will be accompanied by a live on stage 12-piece band of professional musicians.
It is most appropriate that this is the show choice for the season 2017/2018, as 2017 marked the 40th anniversary of the untimely death of Elvis, the undisputed King of Rock and Roll.
All Shook Up takes to the stage at The Atkinson Theatre on Lord Street from March 29-31, with nightly performances at 7.30pm and a matinee on Saturday, March 31 at 2.30pm.
Tickets start at £12 and can be purchased on line at www.theatkinson.co. uk or at the box office or by calling 01704 533333.
