A CYCLIST is calling for a clampdown on dogs being walked off leads after being bitten on the leg.

Crossens resident Raymond West, 70, said he was left with a bleeding leg after the dog attacked him while he rode along the cycle path on Marine Drive, near Banks.

He said it was the latest in a long line of incidents where pet owners have used the cycle paths to let their dogs walk without a lead.

He was advised by his doctor to visit A&E after suffering the bite and says the matter was made worse by the dog’s owner denying their dog had caused the injury.

Mr West, a systems engineer, now believes dog owners should be reminded to keep their dogs on leads and in appropriate areas.

He said: “I was so annoyed. I cycle there every day and always see dogs off their leads on the paths. The owner was so rude and denied her dog had done anything.”

“It really wants a sign up there just to say ‘Keep dogs on a lead’.”

Raymond said he could not report the incident to the police as he did not get the owner’s name but is now planning to buy a helmet camera to record any future incidents.

“Something should done about it all,” he added.

“I come home sometimes and my tyres are covered in dog poo. It’s not on.”
