Heroes save four from home blaze
FOUR people were rescued from a burning building by have-a-go heroes. The blaze occurred at a house in Sandbrook Road, in Ainsdale, on Monday, April 2.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called at 10.34am and three fire engines attended the incident.
On arrival at the scene, crews discovered that four people had been rescued from the fire by a neighbour and a member of the public.
Two ambulances and several hazard area response vehicles from North West Ambulance Service also attended.
All four people were given treatment at the scene by ambulance crews, and two were taken to hospital to Southport and Ormskirk District Hospital.
Firefighters entered the building to rescue a number of pets, including a cat and a dog.
The cat was resuscitated at the scene by crews using a specialist animal oxytherapy kit.
Two teams of firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used a main hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
It is believed the blaze was started by an “accidental ignition” in the front room of the property.
The front room, front landing, stairs and front bedroom of the property were all severely dam- aged by fire and the rest of the property was damaged by heat and smoke.
