WHO remembers their schooldays from the 1980s? It was just Grange Hill...

You can’t beat those golden days when teachers were feared, there was no social media, you could only call your friends if they were home (from the telephone in the hallway...), bus travel was ridiculously cheap and we played out until it was dark. Today we’ve published a series of class pictures from schools in Southport throughout the 1980s, in a bid to bring back some happy memories.

Sadly, some of these schools like being at are no longer open. Southport used to have several private schools, such as Sunnymede, St Wyburn and Tower Dene.

Ainsdale High School was surprisingly shut by Sefton Council over a decade ago, despite strong protests from parents, and it has been much missed ever since.

Some schools, such as St John Stone, St Cuthberts Halsall and Merefield, are still thriving to this day.

Do you recognise anyone in these pictures? What are your memories of life at school in the 1980s?
