Have a blast while you help charity

-

SOUTHPORT based sight loss charity Galloway’s Society for the Blind is bringing back a blast of colour to Southport’s Princes Park and Promenade this summer.

The charity, which supports more than 7,000 blind and partially sighted people each year, had more than 400 runners take part in the Colour Blast last year, raising more than £10,000 to provide life-changing support.

Charlotte Carnell, fundraiser at Galloway’s, said: “There are over 50,000 people living in the Sefton and Lancashire area affected by sight loss and this is a great event to get involved, have lots of fun and make a real difference.

“You can either run, walk or dance your way around the 5k route, whilst an army of volunteers make you as bright as possible with coloured powder.

“The Galloway’s Colour Blast is something that all the family can take part in.”

All money raised by the Colour Blast will go a long way towards support local people through the challenges and devastation that sight loss can bring.

The Galloway’s Colour Blast 2018 in Southport will begin at 11am on Sunday, July 15. There is an early bird registration fee of £15 available.

Registration details and more information about the event, can be found by searching on www.eventbrite.co.uk, calling 01772 744148 or by emailing charlotte.carnell@ galloways.org.uk.

Nathan Scanlon, a previous participant, said: “Myself and my two children took part in the 2017 Colour Blast, it wasn’t about running the 5k, but rather making a difference by getting as bright and as colourful as possible.

“It was the most incredible day that we as a family could enjoy doing something together.

“I also knew that through doing this, Galloway’s would be able to deliver the vital services and offer the same opportunities that sighted people can take for granted.”

Galloway’s supports blind and partially sighted people throughout Sefton and Lancashire, at any point during their sight loss, whether that be at the point of diagnosis or being encouraged to live independently.
