We’ve got a groovy kind of fundraiser

-

ASOUTHPORT centre for Sefton residents with a range of support needs hit the right note with a fundraising fancy dress evening.

The event was to raise money for a new music system at the North Hub in Mornington Road, which is run by adult social care provider New Directions.

Staff and service users warmed to the theme of ’60s, ’70s and ’80s fashions with a variety of eyecatching costumes, with prizes being awarded for the best.

Guests took part in a bingo session and a raffle in a bid to cover the cost of a new sound system for use in future activities.

And there was a disco featuring hot hits from the three decades, as well as a performance by Southport College students of songs from the musical Grease.

Organiser Jackie Ross said: “Our aim was to make this a really fun event and it proved to be really successful.

“I’d like to thank all the local businesses who donated prizes for their generosity.

“And last but not least I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to my niece, Jess Rushby, and her friends, Harriet Middleton, Libbie Cowburn and Ellis Halton, for their brilliant performances of the hits from Grease.”

The New Directions North Hub offers a wide range of services and activities for people with support needs due to age, disabilities or a mental health diagnosis.
