Mooney the star as Skem hold annual awards event
SKELMERSDALE United held their annual end of season awards night at Skelmersdale Cricket Club last week and it was very well supported.
The star of the night was long serving defender Phil Mooney, who apart from a brief spell has been with Skem since he was a sixteen year old.
Phil picked up the Supporters’ Player of the Year trophy and the Players Player of the Year trophy.
Phil is presently the longest serving player on Skelmersdale United’s books and his recognition is a big thank you for his loyalty over the years.
Further awards went to central-defender Josh Wardle who picked up the Managers Player of the Year award from manager Dave Powell, Josh was one of Dave’s first signings when he became manager and has been a virtual ever-present since.
The Young Player of the Year award went to leftback Jack Fleming, Jack joined the club from AFC Liverpool and has done particularly well.
Bevan Burey was also awarded for making the most appearances for the club this season, 43.
One is the most popular announcements was not actually an award, it was long serving former board member and kit manager Mike Boardman being handed the position as President of the club.
Mike has been at the club in an official capacity for around thirty years and has followed the club since he was a child, he was very proud to receive the position.
